Auctions Imperial are the premiere source for Persian, Indo-Persian, ethnographic arms and related arms in the US. Their sale in late May includes many spectacular arms from these categories as well as some early European arms and amour of note. Pictured is a fine Russian imperial presentation shamshir given by Tsar Nikolai II to general Nikolai. Baratov in 1916. Also among the edged weapons offered are an unusual double edged Persian shamshir of the Zand Dynasty, a fine Indian khanda, a Greek revolutionary period shamshir and a Hungarian hussar sabre.
In addition to swords the auction includes a German black and white armour, a Caucasian migulet pistol, an Ottoman Cicak helmet and two 5th century B.C. Greek bronze Chalcidian helmets. Further amour includes several Kulah Khud helmets and matching shields, European helmets of the 16th and 17th centuries and Indian mail and plate armour.
Indian and Persian rock crystal and jade hilted daggers are among the smaller edged weapons offered as well as maces, cartridge cases, and associated accoutrements. Click on the image for a link to the sale.
